9-Day Omo Valley & Chebera Churchura Safari

Arrive at Bole International Airport and meet your guide for a short city tour of Addis Ababa. Visit key sites such as the National Museum (home of “Lucy”), the Ethnological Museum, and the panoramic view from Entoto Hill. Enjoy a welcome lunch at a traditional restaurant before transferring to your hotel.

Take an early morning flight to Jimma, a town known for its coffee heritage. Upon arrival, begin

the scenic drive to Chebera Churchura National Park, one of Ethiopia’s hidden natural treasures. After settling into the campsite, enjoy a late afternoon game drive in search of elephants, hippos, buffalo, and vibrant birdlife.

Overnight: Camping in the park (gear and cook provided)

Start the day with a guided hike through the Meka and Erka Forests, ideal for spotting wildlife in its natural habitat. In the afternoon, explore Borbo Falls and Bulo Lake, both teeming with birdlife and set in pristine surroundings.

Depart for Arba Minch, the gateway to the Omo Valley. Along the way, stop at a Dorze village in the Guge Mountains to experience their iconic beehive-shaped huts and vibrant textile weaving traditions.

Overnight: Paradise Lodege, Arbaminch

After breakfast, take a boat safari on Lake Chamo to spot Nile crocodiles, hippos, and birdlife. Then drive to Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its terraced agriculture, fortified villages, and sculptural waka graves. Visit the “Konso New York” rock formations in the afternoon.

Head south to visit the Arbore tribe, known for their distinctive attire and pastoralist lifestyle. Continue to Turmi and visit a nearby Hamar village to witness daily life, traditional hairstyles,

ochre-painted braids, and cultural practices.

Travel to the remote Nyangatom (Bume) tribe near the South Sudanese border, known for lip plugs, goatskin dresses, and body adornments. Then visit the scenic Karo village of Korcho, perched above the Omo River and famed for elaborate body painting and scarification. Return to Turmi in the evening.

Overnight: Paradise Lodge or similar, Turmi

Drive south to Omorate to visit the Dassanech, a tribe adapting to life along the Omo River. Afterward, return north and visit an Ari village near Jinka, where you’ll experience pottery- making, traditional beehive homes, and a warm coffee ceremony with local families.

Overnight: Nasa Pension or similar, Jinka

Drive through Mago National Park to meet the iconic Mursi tribe, known for lip plates and ritual body markings. Engage respectfully and photograph their striking customs. Return to Jinka for your afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa.

Evening: Optional farewell dinner in Addis Ababa (depending on flight time)
