Itinerary
Welcome to Addis Ababa, “The New Flower” of Africa. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Begin your Ethiopian journey with a panoramic drive to Mount Entoto, offering sweeping views of the capital. Visit the National Museum, home to the world-famous hominid fossil “Lucy.” Explore the Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of Ethiopia’s most important Orthodox churches built during WWII, and the Ethnographic Museum, once the palace of Emperor Haile Selassie. Conclude the day with a visit to Merkato, the largest open-air market in East Africa.

Take a morning flight to Semera, capital of the Afar region. Upon arrival, meet your experienced drivers, guides, and full support team, and depart in rugged 4WD vehicles towards Lake Afdera (–102m below sea level). Explore the salt lake and salt farms, then continue to the base of Erta Ale Volcano. As evening approaches, ascend to the summit caldera (approx. 30 minutes’ walk) and witness the dramatic active lava lake.
Overnight: Open-air camping with mattress, bedsheets, pillow (volcano rim)
Before sunrise, descend and drive to Lake Karum (Asale). Walk along the salt flats and observe salt miners at work. Swim in the highly saline pool near the lake—an otherworldly experience.
Continue to Hamedela and enjoy the sunset over the salt plains.

Rise early and journey to the surreal landscapes of Dallol, a geothermal field of vibrant mineral formations and acidic springs—one of Earth’s hottest and most otherworldly environments.
Explore salt mountains and sulfuric chimneys before returning to Hamedela. After lunch, drive to
Mekelle, the capital of Tigray region.

Today, drive to the Gheralta Mountains and hike to the remarkable Abune Yemata Guh rock- hewn church, famed for its cliffside access and stunning frescoes. Continue to Hawzen, visiting Wukro Cherkos and Abraha We Atsbeha churches en route.

Travel through Tigray’s scenic highlands to Axum, stopping at Yeha Temple (5th century BCE), the oldest standing structure in Ethiopia. After lunch in Adigrat, visit the St. Daniel Church in Gheralta before arriving in Axum.

Explore ancient Axum, once capital of a great empire and legendary home of the Ark of the Covenant. Sites include St. Mary of Zion Church, the Ark Sanctuary Chapel, Queen of Sheba’s Palace, Stelae Park, royal tombs, and Axum Museum. Later, fly back to Addis Ababa.

Fly to Dire Dawa and drive to Harar, the fourth holiest city in Islam. Explore the walled city’s vibrant alleys, visit the House of Arthur Rimbaud, and witness the Hyena Man feeding wild hyenas after dark.

Spend the morning visiting Islamic markets, Harar Museum, and the home of Ras Mekonnen, father of Emperor Haile Selassie. Drive to Dire Dawa and fly back to Addis Ababa.

Fly to Bahir Dar. After check-in, enjoy a scenic boat trip on Lake Tana to visit Ura Kidane Mehret Monastery, adorned with vibrant frescoes. In the afternoon, drive to Blue Nile Falls

This morning, you’ll board a flight to Lalibela, one of Ethiopia’s most iconic and spiritually significant destinations. After lunch, begin your exploration of the extraordinary 11 rock-hewn churches—often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Today, you’ll visit the Northwestern Cluster, which includes Bet Medhane Alem (House of the Saviour of the World), Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael, and Bet Golgotha. These architectural marvels were carved from solid rock in the 12th century and continue to serve as active places of worship.

In the morning, enjoy a scenic trek back into Lalibela. After lunch, continue your journey through history with a visit to the Southeastern Cluster of churches. This includes Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Lehem (House of Holy Bread), Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos—each with its own unique history, symbolism, and architectural style. Following your immersive cultural
experience, you’ll transfer to the airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa.

Fly to Arbaminch, where your southern Ethiopia adventure begins. Visit Forty Springs, a lush forest teeming with monkeys and birdlife. Continue to Dorze Village, home to renowned weavers and bamboo-walled beehive-shaped huts.

Take a boat trip on Lake Chamo, famous for its giant crocodiles and hippos. Then drive to Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to visit the Konso terraced hills and Waga statues. In the late afternoon, explore the fascinating “Konso New York Village” with its hoodoo rock formations.

Drive to the Arbore tribe, known for their intricate beadwork and pastoral lifestyle. Continue to Turmi, the heartland of the Hamar people. In the late afternoon, visit a Hamar village and witness their rich culture and beauty rituals.

Travel through remote bushland to visit the Nyangatom (Bume), semi-nomadic people living near the South Sudan border. Then continue to the Karo tribe, masters of body painting, perched above the Omo River. Return to Turmi in the evening.

Early drive to Omorate to visit the Dassanech, crossing the Omo River to reach their village. Afterward, drive to Jinka via Turmi. In the afternoon, visit the Ari tribe, known for their pottery and beekeeping, and enjoy a coffee ceremony in their communal compound.
Overnight: Nasa Pension Jinka
Drive through Mago National Park to reach the Mursi village, where women famously wear lip plates and ear disks. Spend time engaging with this unique culture. Later, return to Jinka for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Optional farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant before evening departure.
